Junkanoo Summer Festival gives visitors and residents an evening of entertainment featuring Bahamian culture. The shows include music dancing, skits and fashion shows along with popular Bahamian foods. These shows are put on in Marsh Harbour for several weeks in early summer.
Seven high school graduates received scholarships for furthering their education from Abaco Pathfinders Foundation. Each year of their study program they will receive assistance. This group was honoured at a reception on June 20.

A 270-foot barge was loaded with about 6000 tons of scrap metal collected from all over Abaco to be recycled in Florida. This is relieving a problem faced by island residents of what to do with all the junk car, appliances and heavy equipment that has accumulated over many years.

Junkanoo Summer Festival began its season on June 12 with fast, fun schedule. It featured a display of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Marching Band. Other entertainment included the New Wave Dancers, the New Entry Band and Junaknoo by the Treasure Cay Explorers.
Hope Town hosted its annual swim meet for school students. About 100 students from 10 schools competed and many took home medals and ribbons.
The first Lionfish Derby was held on Green Turtle Cay on June 5 and 6. A total of 1408 lionfish were brought in ranging from the size of a person’s thumb, 55 mm, to 349 mm. The lionfish is an invasive species that is consuming huge number of our reef fish.
